Dedicated to Safety at Sea
Riverside & Pickering’s Integrated Management System for Marine Construction
Riverside and Pickering has implemented an Integrated Management System (IMS) that seamlessly combines multiple compliance frameworks to ensure excellence in quality, safety, and regulatory adherence in our marine construction operations. The IMS integrates an ISO 9001:2015-compliant Quality Management System (QMS), an ISM Code-compliant Safety Management System (SMS), an OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP)-compliant Safety & Health Plan, and a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers EM-385-compliant Safety System. The system is supported by Wombat Safety Software for streamlined personnel and compliance recordkeeping.
Our Safety Culture
Riverside and Pickering’s Integrated Management System combines ISO 9001:2015, ISM Code, OSHA VPP, and EM-385-1-1 frameworks into a unified approach that prioritizes quality, safety, and compliance. By leveraging Wombat Safety Software, we ensure efficient recordkeeping and real-time access to critical data, enabling us to deliver safe, high-quality marine construction projects while meeting all regulatory requirements. This IMS reflects our commitment to excellence, safety, and environmental stewardship in every facet of our operations.

The key members of our safety management system ensure the safe operations of each dredge and support vessel and also provide a critical link to our top level of management. They also monitor the safety and pollution prevention aspects of the operation. Riverside & Pickering ensures that non-conformities, accidents, and hazardous situations are reported, investigated, and analyzed through a documentation system that is audited monthly. The system also includes corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Our Safety Management System is well-documented and subject to internal audits by Tug & Barge Solutions ISM & ISO Lead Auditors to verify whether safety and pollution prevention activities comply with the safety management system. Regular management reviews of the operations, inspections and audits ensure management’s commitment to safe operations.
Our vessels and floating plants undergo a 600-point audit three times a year to identify issues and to help Riverside & Pickering grow the safety culture. We continuously assess ourselves using TMSA 2, Safety Culture and Quality of Work Life surveys to track our safety culture and improve our safety record.
Riverside & Pickering’s Safety Management System is also subject to third party audits by the class society RINA and all supporting vendors are expected to comply with the company’s safety management system.
